students (normal)

Xaos is the name of our Student Ministry, but don’t let the name fool you. It may sound like ‘chaos’, but the X actually stands for Christ [**see note below].

And yep, you guessed it…

Christ in the Chaos.

Do you have teenagers? Have you talked with any students lately? There’s lots going on, and there’s pressure coming from every direction. Sports, academics, friendships, jobs, college searches, relationships, social media, driver’s licenses, and more. It can be, well… chaotic.

Today’s junior high and senior high school students were born in 1998 or later, and — based on current research — are facing pressures and challenges most generations have never seen. To be sure, the world is smaller and more connected through technology and travel; however, drought, war, famine, disease, and a global economy also complicate the world in ways previous generations never witnessed.

Why the history lesson?

At OWC, we believe today’s students can impact the world. We believe God can help them find meaning and purpose that will send them out with a courageous tenacity to influence the world for Christ. Rather than avoid the world’s complexities, we invite students to embrace the challenge and [with God’s help!] be a difference maker for Christ and for his Kingdom… even in the chaos.

About that X…

**We see the English letter ‘X’, but what it actually involves is the first letter of the Greek name for Christ. ‘Christos’ is the New Testament Greek word for ‘Christ’. The first letter of the Greek word ‘Christos’ is transliterated into our alphabet as an X. That X has worked its way through church history to be a shorthand symbol for the name of Christ.
